Enhancing the Effectiveness of Public Safety-led Overdose Prevention in Black, Indigenous and People of Color Communities

Individuals, communities and health care systems across the country are struggling to cope with the ongoing overdose epidemic, which is having a disproportionate impact on communities of color. This webinar will present a new approach to enhance the effectiveness of public safety-led overdose prevention in Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) communities. It combines three proven models to enhance overdose prevention and response: trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented systems of care and procedural justice.

The goals of this webinar are:
1. Introduce the Public Safety-led Community-oriented Overdose Prevention Efforts (PS-COPE) framework for enhancing overdose prevention within BIPOC communities.
2. Provide examples of how key PS-COPE concepts and principles have been integrated into public safety-led overdose prevention and response programs.
3. Overview the National Council for Mental Wellbeing’s PS-COPE toolkit and how public safety agencies can use it to enhance their overdose prevention and response programs.
