very few states have EMS as an essential service.

34:56
Excellent point Stephanie

36:58
EMS is one of the essential benefits that most be covered for an insurance plan to meet the requirements of being "Credible Coverage" under the federal ACA requirements

41:05
YEAH TUCSON, about time we do something right in AZ.

42:06
EMTALA requires that Hospital ERs assess and stabilize anyone showing up at the hospital for any health condition including mental health conditions

45:45
What specifically does assess and stabilize look like? Can we avoid labwork? Looking for feedback on how to get people out of the ED into a CSU as quickly as possible

47:11
were to require labs comes under section 3 best clinical practices - which Ken is just getting to

47:38
any specialized training for child crisis recommendations?

48:06
Love this question. So important!

48:20
Under population capacities - 2nd icon on the slide

49:15
great. Do details exist somewhere?

50:17
Also in section 3 - see population specific clinical best practices - icon has an adualt and a child

52:30
The report does not list all the specific child related practices it -rather that they must be there

53:14
thanks for the links! very helpful!

57:44
The report cites examples of medical screening guidelines that have been developed by emergency physicians that help to facilitate access to care and reduce unnecessary and burdensome labwork. Reduction of medical screening barriers for adults or children can be a performance metric for a community developing its crisis system. Most communities are not aware of the available materials which is why we included them. Some states, such as Michigan, are developing standardized medical screening tools to guide this

58:37
The check list is the Crisis System Report Card which is included in the report for any community to use.

01:00:14
Are these ten steps listed in the report?

01:00:48
the checklist is on page 196

01:01:27
Yes Pamela, on page 177

01:05:10
Who has the mobile behavior health team? where is that. i'd like to see that in my hometown, pine ridge, sd

01:06:01
Jamie, my agency (Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare) has mobile crisis/behavioral health team structures in Portland, OR.

01:06:40

01:07:23

01:09:06
Arlington Texas Police Department utilizes a Co.Responder Team (1 Officer + 1 Clinician) and a Crisis Response Team (1 Officer + 1 Officer) to respond and follow up with behavioral health calls in the community. The Officers (Behavioral Health Response Officers) have specialized training.

We're building this now in a tiny mountain community on the San Juan Ridge in California. The closest response team is 45 minutes away. We're gathering local volunteers now to take a Mental Health First Aid course then we'll head into Peer Training, mediation, etc. We have just located a potential building for a care center in town and have partnered with the County to get access to CA-MHSA funding as we ramp up. This session is timely for us. I had the good fortune to work on the team that designed the CCBHC program as it was ramping up and even still I am finding this system challenging to circumvent. This report is very helpful.

01:11:18
Thanks for excellent info. I hope everyone knows about the Technical Transfer Centers sponsored by SAMHSA as they may be a great resource to jump into set up. Also, Idaho has 24 hour crisis centers in major cities so that people can get help, instead of going to emergency room for their crises.

01:13:14
Thanks Judy!

01:14:37
I have to leave. Thank you and I look forward to the recording.

01:15:32
In the community I am working in there is very little trust for law enforcement; they often do not show up when called -- we're focusing on building locally based peer supporters as our first responders...

01:16:00
Thank you all!

01:16:02
Great info and so needed.

01:16:12
Thank you all

01:16:12
