I hope there are appointments upon release and Medicaid upon release in order for these individuals to continue treatment after they leave incarceration---most people do leave jail and prison

47:07
yea! great point !

49:17
RE: Re-entry, in the case of Ingham County (Linda Vail presenting), the health department operates an FQHC and is the healthcare provider in the jail. The FQHC also has a co-located clinic within the local behavioral health authority. So yes, appointments are scheduled w/ ease of follow up. Inmates are assisted with benefits eligibility and MI is a Medicaid expansion state which supports access. The behavioral health authority (Clinton-Eaton-Ingham Community Mental Health) also provides BH/SUD services w/in the jail and appts are scheduled w/ transition support from peer specialists as well.

53:46
that is a perfect use of a FQHC, we don't have that combination, but that would be ideal!

56:31
Courtney - Agree RE:FQHC. We (HMA) coach dozens of sites around the country and this is a great example, but also can be successful in other ways than via an FQHC. Moral of the story - work with what you have as you build what you need.

58:00
thanks Rich--that's is so true!

such a clear demonstration of the need to continue to work on the opioid epidemic and to declare it a health crisis in every county.

More information about MAT waiver can be found at https://pcssnow.org/

01:45:34
tox screens in many cases have to be paid for by the person leaving the jails and it causes a significant financial burden

01:49:40
that's true, but in practice, many prisons and even those in pretrial--don't get the healthcare they need within the facilties

01:52:07
access is key!

01:58:37
everyone is safer inside the jails and prisons when OUD is being treated !

02:00:11
Regarding financing of jail MAT, NACO has been doing some work around the medicaid inmate exclusion in pretrial facilities: https://www.naco.org/resources/featured/naco-nsa-joint-task-force-report-addressing-federal-medicaid-inmate-exclusion-policy
