It would lead to buy-in, better outcomes, etc. if treating tobacco use disorder is part of hospital/healthcare facility accreditation. Smoking affects every cell in the body...affects every area of medicine, including mental health. Why is screening, offering of NRT, treatment, etc. not required as part of accreditation? Opportunity to advocate for this?

01:42:16
Hi all, there are many great thoughts and comments coming into the chat box! To share your comments with the entire audience, please make sure to select "All panelists and attendees" from the drop down menu above the chat box.

Hi PJ!

02:03:01
I have to say this has been one of the best informational webinars I’ve been apart of! You have hit on so many avenues of trauma and solutions to route

02:03:36
@Lea +1

02:03:57
Agreed wonderful webinar!

02:05:10
The webinar is on a break. we will resume in two minutes.

02:05:31
I agree! I will certainly pay more attention to the training for our non-clinical staff.

02:12:42
This has been SO good! Thank you for providing this.

02:15:56
When I think about this issue through this lens, it worries me to see the implementation of punitive policies, such as increasing tobacco taxes and severe restrictions. It feels as if we are punishing people who have experienced trauma and are struggling with addiction. Without meaningful treatment options, it just seems cruel.

02:17:58
Deb, you make an excellent point!

02:18:07
Punitive policies should definitely be considered, especially with youth, but there is a lot of evidence to support tobacco taxes help individuals quit and does not impact them in the way we may instinctively think in regards to putting undo stress on income.

02:18:27
Deb Messina- policy implementation should include a plan to assist those with addictions. The process of implementation is key and needs to include those whom the policy would impact directly.

02:30:12
I move my laptop around the house, from the desk, to the kitchen counter, living room. I become unproductive if I sit in the same spot all day.

02:32:31
Standing desk has been such a blessing and it was less than $500.

02:32:41
@Tracey - I do the same thing! And I add a dog on my lap when I can. :)

02:33:20
@Deb-I usually have 1 of 3 cats on mine!

02:36:12
I change rooms at least three times a day.

02:36:54
I guess this is one of the benefits of working from home, at least for some.

02:39:00
So many of these types of interventions are better delivered in real time in small groups or one-to-one but not so effectively over the phone, by a text-based intervention or AI. The value of the human connection is what is missing for many who would like to leave cigarettes behind.

02:39:25
Acupuncture did not work for me. I used a nicotine replacement therapy. That worked.

02:40:17
YES Gloria--wonderful news. NRTs work!!!!!!

02:41:49
Congratulations Gloria!

02:45:02
I used NRTs as well!

I'm fortunate my practice is in a clinic environment with providers who can let me know about potential drug-to-drug interactions with bupropion.

02:50:29
Not every person who smokes sees themselves as having an illness or needing recovery. Language matters a lot.
